Residue

Definition: Residue is the loose material left behind after weathering, its particles ranging from boulder to clay in the particle size scale. It may be classified as chemical residue or physical residue (detritus) depending on how it was created. An example of physical residue is grus. An example of chemical residue is laterite, a soil layer in which only iron and aluminum compounds (such as bauxite) remain after extensive dissolution.
