The seafloor avalanche of sand that formed this turbidite bed swept over a thin layer of clayey mud and sank its heavy feet into the soft material. The flame structures between the lobes of sand are a clear sign that the ancient current flowed from right to left.
This beautifully formed set of load casts is right next to the path leading to the lighthouse at Point Reyes, California. It also appears in Geology of the San Francisco Bay Region.
