At this stop the uplift and erosion of the Sierra Nevada is evidenced by the tilting of lava flows of the Mehrten Formation (about 5 Ma) and the removal of huge amounts of rock by erosion since the lava hardened. We also get some clues to the shape of the mountains at the time of the lavas.
