The Sevier thrust belt extends in a huge arc with its southern end in eastern California, just south of Las Vegas. Its easternmost point is at the border between Utah and Wyoming, and its northern end is the rugged border between British Columbia and Alberta. In southernmost Nevada, late during Cretaceous time (about 80 million years ago), limestones of Cambrian age (about 500 million years old) were pushed sideways on thrust faults over younger Jurassic rocks (about 160 million years old), most notably the red Aztec Sandstone.
This tour of Nevada Sevier belt localities goes from west to east.
