East of the fault is the Diablo Range, to the west is the Cholame Hills and Gabilan Mesa. Parkfield sits in the Cholame Valley. Roads leading to the fault are, starting from upper left, Indian Canyon Road (see the creeping segment tour), Vineyard Canyon Road, and combined state routes 41 and 46. Not shown is Slacks Canyon Road from Parkfield to SAFOD research drilling site.
