Abandoned Course of Mill Gulch

Today Mill Gulch runs past the Doda Ranch at far left, but in the past it bent to run along the fault, then turned sharply to the sea here. (more below)

This is another example of stream diversion by the fault. Today a state campground occupies the former streambed, which carries almost no water today. And the mouth of the old streambed, where it reaches the sea, now lies a few meters above the beach because of uplift since the time the stream was abandoned, approximately 5000 years ago. Without water, the stream could not erode its bed downward to match the uplift.
