Monterey Bay is at upper left, Central Valley at upper right and the Big Sur country (the Santa Lucia Range) at middle left. The high ground east of Salinas is the granitic Gabilan Range, with the Salinas Valley downdrop block to its west. An excellent way to follow this trip is with the interactive map of the fault by Thule Scientific, publisher of the excellent Field Guide to the San Andreas Fault.
