Monterey Bay is at upper left, Central Valley at upper right and the Big Sur country (the Santa Lucia Range) at middle left. The high ground east of Salinas is the granitic Gabilan Range, with the Salinas Valley downdrop block to its west. The San Andreas fault zone runs straight from upper left to lower right. Between San Juan Bautista and Parkfield it moves by creep. (more below)
