Tejon Pass Gouge

Fault gouge makes a spectacular appearance at the peak of Tejon Pass overlooking Interstate 5 at the trace of the San Andreas fault.

Letter from H. R. Myles, near Pasadena, January 28, 1857:

"We will finish racking off the wine about the same time, the wine is not very clear that is the most of it owing to two causes. One is many of the casks were closed too tight before the wine was done fermenting, and the other is we have had about fifty earth-quakes in the last two weeks, three of which rocked the house very much, and cracked the plastering and walls in many places but has done no serious damage."
