View west from the top of Grandview Canyon, west of Big Pines, over the fault trace and the Mojave Desert. (more below)

Click the photo for the full-size version. The small light-colored patch on the distant ridge is the fault crossing at Mile High. In the far distance vertically above Mile High is San Emigdio Mountain and to its left, barely visible, is Frazier Peak. Both are about 100 kilometers from here. The San Andreas fault curves slightly to the left from here and runs between them.

To the right is the high basin of the western Mojave Desert with the distant Tehachapi Mountains on its far side. We'll see more of these as we progress westward along the fault.
