The Algodones Dunes are the largest dune field in California, roughly 70 kilometers long and about 8 km wide. Most of the dunes is in the Imperial Sand Dunes Recreation Area, administered by the Bureau of Land Management. The dunes are precious to many different groups of people for different reasons.
