Many places in the American West are called "red rocks," but California's Red Rock Canyon State Park may be the one most widely seen. Dozens of Hollywood films, including "Jurassic Park," and many more advertisements have been filmed here over the last 80 years. Its colorful sedimentary rocks, rich in fossils from Miocene time some 10 million years ago, are tilted by motion along the Garlock fault and related faults at the northern edge of the Mojave crustal block. Here are a few views of its rocks and desert scenery.
