Glacier Bay is an open-air museum of glaciers. The Discoverer spent a perfect day here, collecting sediment samples and sonar profiles. At its north end, the bay splits into two narrow fjords, Tarr Inlet and Johns Hopkins Inlet. The latter is more dramatic. We approached Johns Hopkins slowly. Although these small icebergs and bergy bits were not a hazard to the vessel, a larger berg could dent the hull and was worth avoiding.
