Groundwater is not always pure. Many sedimentary rocks capture seawater in their pores; others find themselves saturated with evaporite minerals that form in arid settings. Whatever the cause here, this hillside serves forth bitter water that crusts its surface with salt. The cattle are fenced away from it.
