This set of terraces, farther down the coast in the Fairweather Range, shows that the region is prone to large tectonic uplifts. The ultimate purpose of our mission on the Alsek River was to see if the numerous low ridges crossing the delta had a similar origin. We would be looking for ancient materials suitable for radiocarbon dating.
