Dot's mission on our trip was to survey the vegetation. This scene is pleasant enough, but it brings up the topic of coping with the Alaskan bush. Her field outfit, like mine, consisted of wellingtons for dry feet, rain clothes to ward off sudden showers and splashing icewater in the boat, and a weapon suitable for bear (in my case it was a .45 pistol). Not visible in this photo: machete for moving through brush, government-issued insect repellent on all exposed skin.
