Mount Crillon, Alaska, USA

(c) 2002 Andrew Alden, licensed to About.com, Inc. (fair use policy)

Mount Crillon is a rugged outlier of the Fairweather Range, in the Alaska panhandle between Glacier Bay and the Gulf of Alaska. Its nearness to the coast helps make it more visible than the truly high mountains in the range, most notably Mount Fairweather. But in truth, the whole range is seldom visible because it sits amid some of the worst weather in North America. This photo was taken in July 1979, by the dawn's early light. See lots more of this region in my report on that 1979 research cruise.
