Boundary Peak, Nevada

(c) 2006 Andrew Alden, licensed to About.com (fair use policy)

Boundary Peak is in the northern White Mountains, just over the state line from California on the shoulder of Montgomery Peak. It is the highest point in Nevada. This photo was taken from the north, on the steep slopes south of Queen Canyon roughly 600 meters below the peak. It consists of light-colored granite (formally speaking, an adamellite or quartz monzonite) of late Cretaceous age. See more about it at the Geology of United States Highpoints site.
