Lateral Moraine

This U-shaped valley in Glacier Bay, Alaska, once held a glacier, which left a thick swath of glacial sediment along its sides. That lateral moraine is still visible, supporting some green vegetation. Moraine sediment, or till, is a mix of all particle sizes, and it can be quite hard if the clay size fraction is abundant.
