Hanging Glacier

Just as a hanging valley doesn't quite connect with the valley it "hangs" over, hanging glaciers don't connect to the valley glacier below by a smoothly flowing stream of ice. These hanging glaciers are in the Chugach Mountains of Alaska. The glacier in the valley below is covered with rock debris. The small hanging glacier in the middle barely reaches the valley floor, and most of its ice is probably carried down in icefalls and avalanches rather than glacial flow.
