This Week's Geo-Quiz: Geology -Ologies

You could call geology a single science with a wide purview—that's what I do. But geoscience is also a bundle of many specialties, each with its own "ology" name. That's what this week's quiz is about: 12 increasingly tough questions about the ologies of geoscience. Win or lose, I think you'll learn a little geo-lexicology.

(1) Jim Reed says:

I think that it makes things easier to just think of all the other sciences as being subsets of geology. Physics, chemistry, biology, and so on are merely tendrils of geology. At the ends of these tendrils are the nodes (e.g. theoretical particle physics) but they still trace back to the all-encompassing (and all embracing) concept of “Geology”. Sure, there are some who may argue with this hierarchy, but the inescapable scientific fact is that it’s a surefire way to endlessly annoy our non-geologist friends.
