Watch Klyuchevskoy

By October 21, 2013

Follow me on:

The Kamchatka Peninsula is the world's most productive area of volcanoes, "productive" meaning that it produces the most lava. And among the busy giants of Kamchatka, the volcano Klyuchevskoy is one of the busiest. You can tell by its immaculate cone, as pristine as a gravel pile being poured—volcanoes are the geologic embodiment of Bob Dylan's line that "he not busy being born is busy dying." Klyuchevskoy has been in vigorous eruption for the past week, closely monitored by satellites and its own webcam. And with that I want to point you to Erik Klemetti's Eruptions blog, where the volcano master has assembled a set of images from those sources.
