Classify the Gabbroics

By June 28, 2013

Follow me on:

gabbroidsAlong with the ultramafics, I have worked my way through the gabbroic rocks, an important class of rocks that make up much of the lower oceanic crust but are not much seen on land. The results are a set of three classification diagrams that show how to give one of these rocks the right name, whether it's troctolite (shown here), norite or something else including true gabbro. Master these and you'll impress your buddies when you tell them "grab a gabbro, bro!"
