The Pleistocene Fossils of Fairmead

By May 25, 2013

Follow me on:

wolf fossilLast Sunday I took a half-day field trip to see the museum and backstage storage facility of the large collection of Pleistocene fossils from the Fairmead Landfill. The repository was awesome: the whole upstairs of an old brick county building, loaded with fossils. There are two whole rooms with a sign on the door saying "Equus," each full of horse bones. Next to them is one labeled "Camelops." The rooms have large wooden cabinets with sliding shelves full of cleaned, labeled and cataloged specimens. There are modular steel shelves labeled "Oversize" where the mammoth bones and tusks lie in their plaster jackets. Anyway, have a look at some of the highlights in my new photo tour
