Science is so much fun to talk about that maybe we don't often get to share some more personal stories. With Valentines Day approaching, I thought it would be fun to collect some examples of the warmer side of our relationship with the rocks and landscapes. Like, did you get engaged or married in a cool place?
I'll be the first to tell: I married my wife on top of Mount Diablo one fine day, and for many years afterward we picked a new mountain to observe our anniversary. (We've since broadened the range of our destinations.) Here's where we went for our third anniversary, for instance. I also got some good stories from some of my About.com colleagues who are not geologists. See all the stories here and consider adding your own. One item I didn't use (but maybe you can) is from New England Travel Guide Kim Knox Beckius: the famous calcite heart of Howe Cavern, reputed to bring you good fortune in romance.
