I'm heading north from Oakland, California toward Portland, Oregon today. While I'm doing that, take yourself on a road trip across California's ancient subduction zone, as recorded in rocks from the Bay Area to the Sierra Nevada.
In Portland is the Geological Society of America's annual meeting, where I'll be sitting at the feet of geologists from across the world for four full days. Follow me and many other attendees on Twitter; I'm @aboutgeology and we'll be using the hashtag #geoportsearch for that term and you'll see more than a dozen different people reporting what they see and do during the meeting.
