collier over coastsAlmost no one does coffee-table books like Michael Collier, because for more than 30 years he has taken his camera and Cessna over most of North America, it seems, in the pursuit of geological beauty. His latest is Over the Coasts, a paean to the edges of North America where water meets land. Every photo is large and gorgeous, true, and expertly annotated; you'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite whether you admire the intricate sloughs of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts or the rugged grandeur of the Pacific cordillera. I guess my favorite is Collier's portrait of Lituya Bay on a rare fine day, its curving contours and inner roilings laid out plain from its narrow Pacific entrance to the cloud-topped glaciated ranges that once filled it with ice. But you'll have yours. See my review.
