Carbon Sequestration: Louisiana's Ready

Monday July 6, 2009
Louisiana is a major oil-producing state, and it is no wonder that they're interested in doing their part to keep petroleum carbon-neutral. To promote carbon sequestration, the Louisiana legislature has passed House Bill 661, setting up a legal structure for deep injection wells. It keeps the injecting companies on the hook for 10 years, then transfers responsibility for the injected CO2 to the state. That seems short to me, but presumably that's how the deal turned out.
