Earthquake Art at Parkfield

Wednesday October 15, 2008
parkfieldI know where I'm going next week on my way to Las Vegas: Parkfield, California, the unofficial center of the San Andreas fault. The U.S. Geological Survey has sponsored an art installation called the Parkfield Interventional EQ Fieldwork. It's a contraption that moves in response to the live signals from local seismographs, and it should be fairly active considering the location. I want to sit down and try to catch a seismic wave, like the morning I played Quakespotting, then have some lunch at the Parkfield Cafe ("Be here when it happens!") and head on toward the desert.
