Blue Slag

Thursday August 14, 2008
blue slagForum members bring in a steady stream of solid objects, seeking help identifying them. This week forum member pdc7897 showed us this lovely piece of slag, found long ago beneath an old tree stump in central New York state. I was pleased to add it to the Artificial Rocks gallery.

I don't know much about what specific smelting process produced this, but I do know slag. Similarly, I can always spot the fake rocks that people use to hide their house keys. As they say, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
