Fossil Tree Trunk from Zimbabwe

petrified woodJust added to the gallery of fossil wood is this impressive specimen from a collector in Africa. The bluish-green color is unusual, but I think the material is probably chalcedony, like most wood fossils. I hope he is doing all right in that deeply troubled country.
