Get deeper into K-Ar dating
Wednesday January 16, 2008
I tend to write about subjects at a basic level, to give you a grasp of concepts rather than working detail. So if you have read my introduction to potassium-argon dating and are ready for a deeper plunge at the hands of someone who actually uses the technology, I'm happy to send you to fellow blogger Thermochronic, who produces the blog Apparent Dip. He has written a series of interesting posts on topics in his specialty, and the one you would start with to learn more about K-Ar is called simply "K-Ar and 40Ar-39Ar Thermochronology." Right there in the title, you can see the sophistication of his approachwhereas I talk about dating rocks as simply determining the date they solidified, Thermochronic goes to the next level, where real geologists work and where dating methods are used to determine the cooling history of rocks: thermochronology. If that post whets your appetite, look down the right side of his page for more "geology reference blog posts."
