Field trip gets in the papers
It's not every day that a geologic field trip is covered as news, but a visit by 80 geologists to a prime trenching site on the San Andreas fault got reporter Joe Nelson's attention. His story was published in the Ontario Daily Bulletin last week. The field trip was part of the penumbra of events around the meeting of the Association of Environmental and Engineering Geologists, and it looks like a win-win for everybody: the geologists attending the meeting, the public, and the reporter who got to learn something extra. I've covered a few field trips here, including one on the Napa Valley, one on the Hayward fault and another on the Sutter Buttes. It's also a lot of fun to follow the printed guide to a field trip on your ownI did that for an ambitious traverse of California that took four days.
