Eruption in the Red Sea
Monday October 1, 2007
The island volcano Jebel at-Tair has erupted for the first time since 1883, according to a passing Canadian ship. The Red Sea is a slowly spreading oceanic basin with a classic volcanic rift down its middle. Jebel at-Tair is the northernmost active volcano in the Red Sea and belongs to Yemen. It houses a military base. Reuters has an early story.
