Strong Quake Hits Hawaii

hawaii earthquakeSunday morning, at 7:07 local time, an M6.6 earthquake struck the northwest side of Hawaii island, north of Kailua Kona. This map shows local felt responses, the gold color representing intensity VIII, severe shaking and moderate damage. It was a strike-slip event with a slight vertical component. See the scientific data and background on the U.S. Geological Survey's special page for this event.
