The Real Big Ones
Wednesday March 1, 2006
I'm speaking of calderas, more popularly known as "supervolcanoes." They are collapsed volcanoes, so big that their major eruptions can knock the whole world's climate askew for years. So big they can push humankind nearly to extinction. And several of them, not just the Yellowstone caldera, are alive today. See the table of great calderas and look for the one nearest you.
