Today, 17 October, is the anniversary of the Loma Prieta (or World Series) earthquake. It seems that every major quake leaves a mark in the culture of the epicentral region. All over the San Francisco Bay area, people remember the event and its long, sometimes agonizing aftermath. I present a few of the stories here. But truth be told, a dozen or so of these is enough even for us Bay area survivors. For today I recommend a visit to the quake photo-tour from the University of California at Santa Cruz, the city that suffered the greatest damage from the quake--and the city that rebuilt the best afterward.
