About Metamorphic Rocks

Thursday September 15, 2005
Metamorphic rocks are the third great class of rocks. They always teach this group last, but in my exposure to rocks over the years, the metamorphics have grown in significance and interest. Mineral collectors have known this all along, as the great majority of weird and rare minerals come from this class. But the rest of us in the rock-centric life need time and experience to appreciate the history and complexity the metamorphic rocks can encompass. Maybe it's like the wine aficionado, who gravitates toward the reds and the regionals after a youthful attachment to simpler tastes.
