Tuff cone
Thursday June 9, 2005
The Landform Picture Gallery now includes a photo of a tuff cone, yet another subspecies of volcano. This one started out as a maar, like the tuff ring I added the other day, but it grew up a little more and had an actual lava lake in its crater until it ceased activity. Erosion inverted its shape, and now it looks like a butte, which I suppose it technically is.
