Aftershocks are not afterthoughts

Now that the tumult has died down around Parkfield after the earthquake of 28 September, we can see how the aftershocks there look. I've put together some images of the aftershocks during the first hour and the first week postquake. They should show you how valuable it is to have instruments nearby as soon as possible after a large quake. For more about aftershocks, read on.
