Mount St. Helens stirs

Sunday September 26, 2004
The U.S. Geological Survey today issued a Notice of Volcanic Unrest in the wake of a swarm of small earthquakes: "Several causes are possible, but most point toward an increased probability of explosions from the lava dome," the Survey says. They're talking about fairly harmless explosions confined to the present summit crater, but those would be deadly to people who happened to be standing there. Keep up with the data at the Pacific Northwest Seismograph Network site.
