Argo Permeates the Sea

Argo is a worldwide scientific project that is throwing thousands of buoys into the sea. Each of these floats has instruments to make physical measurements as it drifts 2000 meters deep in the ocean, a pump and bladder to make it rise to the surface periodically, and a radio to send its data to land via satellite. The 11 May issue of Eos has an exciting article about the state of Argo, but for most of you this article is more accessible, and it includes other groundbreaking ways we're studying the sea.
