California quakes predicted

UCLA's earthquake-prediction expert, Vladimir Keilis-Borok, has come forward with a prediction of a southern California earthquake within the next nine months "in a region that includes the southeastern portion of the Mojave Desert, and an area south of it." See this press release issued Tuesday (a story in Wired today also picked up on it).
It's about a paper being submitted to Physics of the Earth and Planetary Interiors, a flagship journal in the field. Keilis-Borok could be called the flagship scientist in this field.
