A day in alluvium

I spent the day in the Sierra Nevada foothills, down at the edge of the Great Valley where all the Sierra's sediment has been going for millions and millions of years. Imagine the alluvium in these photos, magnified a thousand times. I am feeling mighty small at the moment.
